Regions
Friday in class we learned about regions and culture. We started class by learning that culture is the body of customary beliefs, material traits, and social forms that together constitute the distinct tradition of a group of people. The origin of the word culture is the latin cultus which means "to care for" and there is 2 meanings to care about and to care for. We then learned about geographers, and what kind of things they studied. They study things such as why the customary ideas, beliefs, and values of a people produce a distinctive culture in a particular place. Especially important cultural ideas form from a groups language, religion, and ethnicity. After this we went on to how different places are similar. Scale, space and connections help geographers to explain why there are so many similarities on earth. Scale is the relationship between the portion of the Earth being studied and earth as a whole.
