Population Pyramids
Today in human Geography class we first started off class by me introducing my shadow, I was a shadow host host for the seniors dean Mr. Powell's son. Anyway today we were talking about population pyramids, which in my opinion are fairly easy to read and analyze. Mr. Schick made it known that it was very important to understand that males are always on the left and females are always on the right. Which for me is easy to remember, and that based on these population pyramids you can discover a lot about a nation or country. The first thing was the three basic shapes, a Christmas tree, the box, and the cup. based on these their was a series of things that one person can identify about a country. For example, a Christmas tree is typically a developing nation, has slow growth rates, high birth rates, and short life expectancy. The box is typically a developed nation with slow growth, theirs a low infant mortality rate, slow population growth, and long life expectancy. Lastly, the cup is typically a developed nation with negative growth, has a slow birth rate, shrinking population, and long life expectancy.

Fact books and class
Today in class we first went over what we had learned yesterday in class and for homework regarding the CIA Fact book. I learned that the USA has thirteen thousand air ports and the next in line is China with around four thousand. I even learned that their is a air port in Forest Hill. In doing this i was able to learn more about other countries, and other interesting facts about other nations. I was also able to see how helpful the CIA Fact book can be when doing research about other countries. Another fact that I didn't know was that the're more twenty-five to fifty-four year old's in America then the're are anything else, so this means that someone selling something will have to try to get people from this age group to try to sell important things and make a lot of money. Also that the United States has the most obese population in countries. Also, that the highest deaths of Aids as of in 2016 is in Nigeria, and the list continues to go on and on with more African countries due to their poor healthcare and not being able to find and or see a doctor their. We then found out that our test will be based on the CIA World Fact book, and that our test is fifteen questions and we have only fifteen minutes to look up and find the information. This means that we have to be very familiar with the cite and how to look things up quickly. We will also have a part of the test that will be definitions and how to find the immigration and emigration rate and other rates. We will also have to know how to read these weird looking things that apparently are referred to as a Christmas tree or something like that. Then we listened the the National Anthem and it was great.

CIA Fact book
Statistic; 11 births out of every 1,000 people and 13.5 deaths out of every 1000 people.
~In Russia their is only 11 births per 1,000 people and 13.5 deaths per 1,000 people. This means that their population would be dropping. I found this interesting that what i thought to be a well a big country is actually decreasing in size.
Statistic; 36.2% out of 1,000 people are obese
~ I knew that a lot of people in the united states were overweight but i didn't think that just a little under 50% were overweight. I thought that more along the lines of 20%.
Statistic; 70% Chinese out of 2,205 population
~ I found this interesting that a island in the Indian Ocean would have the majority of Chinese people would live there.
Statistic; 19.1% of population can read.
~ I figured in Niger that many could not read, however i thought it would be like 50% can read not 19% especially due to how big the country is.
Statistic; A little more than 22 million
~ I thought this was weird for Sri Lanka because its such a small island with such a large population.

Population including migration
Today in human geography we learned about measuring population. we learned that RNI stands for rate of natural increase and you come up with the RNI by subtracting the death rate from the birth rate. We also learned about the net migration rate which is the difference between the number of persons entering and leaving a country during a year. We followed this up with net immigration, which is the excess of persons entering the country. Then emigration which is the excess of persons leaving the country. So why would people migrate? Well due to the push and pull factors, push factors include civil war, environmental degradation, unemployment or underemployment, and religious freedom. some pull factors are better economic opportunities, better health services, religious freedom, and political freedom. On the other side of all of this there is the TFR or total fertility rate is the average of number of children born per women. For a population to remain the same it must stay 2.1, anything lower population will fall, anything higher population will rise.

Life Expectancy
Today in human geography with Mr. Schick we continued a unit and looked over our tests. In the tests we came up and either received one ring, two rings, or no rings. Most people in the class received no ring which means they got a 89 or below, and we were made clear that our test scores averaged the lowest throughout all of his classes. this therefore frustrated him like it would any, and only we can fix that. When we got back into our regular unit we started to talk about life expectancy, and that the united states ranks number 42 in the standings. We began to talk about why and came up with some solid reasons. Things like the American life style, which means how we eat fast and unhealthy food, and how we are constantly sitting in cars and not walking or biking. Another reason is drugs. The US has the highest percent of users of heroin. A lot of people in the US use heavy drugs such as this and other countries keep supplying because there making a ton of money. We lastly talked about how women seem to always live longer than men. The major reason as we discussed in class was that men typically put more stress on their body then women do. With jobs being the major factor in which stress infects the body.

New Unit on Population+Settlement
Today in Human Geography we started our new section on Population and settlement. I thought maybe first we would get our tests back but there were still people who hadn't done it yet so they had to do it while we were in class. I still already know my score i got a ninety three percent bu ti want to know what i got wrong because i felt really good about the test. Anyway we also talked in class about how many people live on Earth, and about how fast that number has approached today's seven billion. However, we talked about how it was very common for people back in the day to have a lot of kids, and mostly the women took care of the kids. But as time progressed people stopped doing that and would only have one or two kids, which made the population decrease from how fast it was growing. We really ended class that way, With talking about how when my teacher was kid family's had lots of kids and then his generation family's only had a couple, and then future generations of family's had less and less.

TEST #2
So today we took our test on maps and geography in human geography. I think i did really well on the test, i actually think i got a 100 but i'm not sure. It seemed pretty easy while i was taking it, but i don't know if it was easy because i wasn't sure, if that makes any sense. Everyone in class was really quite while we were taking the test, probably because Mr. Schick warned us about detentions. I plan on keeping a good look at my varacross so when he uploads them i can see my grade and know what i have to review on to keep good grades and for midterms. I studied a good bit for this test, I was a little stressed before hand because most of my teachers gave a test today, but that's just part of school and part of life in general. So anyways i think i aced my test, i hope i aced my test.

Review Day #2
Today in class we continued to review for the test for the second day. Mr. D was back in class today, so we went on to help the class review. We began by going over all of the normal review questions, but Mr. D came up with a smart idea to help us really get the information in our head... We Would Play A Review Game. It makes reviewing fun and feel like its more worth while. My side of the room lost but we did get good information based on what we had learned. I had to leave for most of the class due to my blood sugar issues regarding my diabetes. When i came back i took the stand and tried to get our team a point but i had the answer right but couldn't write it down fast enough. It was all in all a fun class and i feel really good and confident about the test tomorrow.

Review Day(Picking questions for the test)
Today in class the teacher Mr. Schick decided to make it a review day for the test Friday. In doing this he told us that everything we go over in the review he will put on the test, which then he told us that based on our feed back we will choose the kind of questions that will be on the test. The only real notes that i took today was things i needed to personally look over to make sure i would have everything down. I wrote things such as the Prime Meridian, degrees of longitude in each time zone (there are 15), opposite side of the Earth's Prime Meridian is the International dateline, and to look over and review my distortion notes. So far i think i have it all down and i think i will do well on the test, i'm hoping to do like i did on the first test and have a perfect score. In order to do this i am studying hard and looking over my notes a lot. To sum up class Mr. Schick told us the test would be open maps, so i think based on this i should do well, i'm hoping will do well.

Regions
Friday in class we learned about regions and culture. We started class by learning that culture is the body of customary beliefs, material traits, and social forms that together constitute the distinct tradition of a group of people. The origin of the word culture is the latin cultus which means "to care for" and there is 2 meanings to care about and to care for. We then learned about geographers, and what kind of things they studied. They study things such as why the customary ideas, beliefs, and values of a people produce a distinctive culture in a particular place. Especially important cultural ideas form from a groups language, religion, and ethnicity. After this we went on to how different places are similar. Scale, space and connections help geographers to explain why there are so many similarities on earth. Scale is the relationship between the portion of the Earth being studied and earth as a whole.

Review Day
Today in class we reviewed what we have gone over so far this unit. In class we never even turned on the lights or the projector. However, we still went over everything we have done so far. I for the most part i knew and had it in my notes everything we talked about. I knew most of the answers Mr. Schick asked but i didn't answer anything i just kept it to myself. After a few questions i asked Mr. Schick if my buddy Ben looked like Socrates which i think they look alike, and he agreed. I think i found out Ben's new nickname, he wont like it but he will come to accept it i think(laughing). Anyway i think today's class was useful because were able to go back to some questions we were asked in the beginning. We are now able to give good solid answers to some of these questions were as before we had no idea.

POP quiz and more about regions
Friday in class we learned more about regions BUT we had a Pop Quiz. The quiz was actually really difficult. There was ten questions on the test, and he gave us fifteen seconds to come up with an answer. In doing this it was super difficult, because you had no time to think about the question, but it was also really good because we had to recall everything we learned very quickly, and do it before fifteen seconds. In a way it makes us remember it faster and better because we have to come up with it on spot, but in another way its bad because you have to come up with it on spot and you don't get to think about it. However I pulled a eighty percent on the quiz so i wasn't Happy about my grade but I was okay with it. After the quiz we went on to going over a functional and a vernacular region. We Learned that Functional region is a region is a region organized around a focal point. And a Vernacular region is a region is a area that people believe exists as part of their culture or identity, such as the South with farming.

region and student teachers
Today In class we went over the different types of regions and we also had students come up and teach the class. We started with the definitions of different words like Toponym which is the name given to a place, Site which is the physical character of a place, and situation which is the location of a place relative to other places. We then went over what a Region is which is a unique area of land, it is unique because there is only one in the world and every place is different. When the two students went up to teach it was fun and I thought is was cool to be able to learn from a students stand point and what they knew compared from learning it from a teacher. We all had some good laughs in class and all together we learned more about maps.

Return of the Test
Today in school was a freshman dress as baby's day so that was fun. While we were in class we went back over our old tests. In this test there were only two people in his hole human geography classes and i was one. I had a overall test grade of one hundred and two. I felt really good about this test and the fact that i was one of two people who got a perfect score helped my confidence about tests. After the test we talked about different people such as Collin kaepernick, who knelled for the National Anthem. I personally don't think it was right at in in any reason, but that's just my views. We were asked to define words for this blog so i figured after i discussed class i would begin. The first word is Place, meaning A particular position in space. The next word we were asked to define was location meaning a particular place or position. We then have the word site; an area of ground in which a building or town is constructed. Then situation or the location and surroundings of a place. Then toponym which means what a place is named. And lastly region which is an area or division, especially part of a country.

GPS pros and cons + Technology
Today in Human Geography class with Mr.Schick we talked about the Global Positioning System, short for GPS. A GPS gives us precise location were ever we are in the world. It is so precise because it uses satellites (four of them) to determine distance from them, to determine your exact location. This is so good that it can give you turn-by-turn directions, and helps pilots and sea captains to know what to expect, it also gives location for social media applications in smart phones. However because it gives apps and social media your location it always knows were you are, and someone out there always knows were you are. And then for an example an "Alexa" is always listening to your conversations whenever its on. It listens and tracks everything said but only responds when someone says, "Hey, Alexa....". Because it does this it can get personal information from you based on your location and what it hears. After that discussion in class we began talking about how certain points on Earth are unique. We said that each point on the map is distinguished by specific characteristics, and because its so specific it can help geographers to identify similarities and differences among Earth.
