Day five thousand

1)
A)Direct Democracy- a term used for the type of government Athens had which let the people have more say, let people vote without representatives.
B) Classical Art- In Athens they had sculptures and many buildings were made to look especially pretty, of that time it was the classical art; harmony, order, balance
C) Tragedy- Athens put on plays and one of the most popular in Athens where tragedies, which was a drama, usually resulting in the death of a hero, due to a fatal flaw; Hubris=excessive pride;Sophocles had tradegy called Oedipus Rex;
D)Comedy- Another popular type of play in Athens, usually made fun of important people or other such things;Aristophenes play called lysistrata
E) Peloponnesion War- A war fought between Athens and Sparta in 431 BC through 404 BC, ultimately leading of Athens defeat.
F) Philosopher- Athens had many famous philosophers in his time, they had people who loved the search for wisdom.
G) Socrates- Was a famous philosopher in Athens, shaped the philosophers of other generations.
H) Plato- One of Socrates' students and tough a young Alexander the Great
I) Aristotle- Another important philosopher who focused on how things worked.

3) To strengthen democracy in Athens Pericles had people run in government, had the people run and get paid for it. Also implemented direct democracy.

4) In the Peloponnesion war Athens wanted to keep the war a sea, while Sparta wanted and fought on land with military's marching to Athens.

5) Because it was completely different from anything that they had ever been taught or had known, it was a complete different style of thinking.
