Asylum

Today in human geography with Mr. Schick we talked about being in a debate in class and debating about an Asylum in the U.S. We talked about how we have to be respectful and not get rowdy if we do try to do a debate. So Mr. Schick decided to do it based on Asylum, which is not regarding the hospital, it is regarding the U.S.A taking in other people in emigration. We then started to do a video that was about how we turned the Jewish people away when they came here for a place to stay in the 19 hundreds. Because of this we then went to why and how we went about doing this and all the laws we put in place about it. We also talked about how the untied states then went to taking in tons of people to make America look as if it were a great place and to make hundreds of other countrie look bad in the world view point.

Interregional Migration

Today in human geography with Mr. Schick we learned about interregional migration. We learned that people do this due to perceived economic betterment and it typically compels individuals to make interregional migrations. From this we talked about an example of this, in the Westward expansion. In this historical event enticement of abundant available land on the American Frontier lead to people moving. They wanted to find land they could claim in order to farm and make money. However, since presently most jobs, especially services, are in urban areas that's were most people had to move to find jobs in present times. Even in westward expansion it contributed to a shift in the center of population. It was before the westward expansion close to the cost but when everyone started to move it moved the center of population closer to the mid America area. That's what we had learned in Human geography today taught by Mr. Schick.

Migration

Today in Human Geography with Mr. Schick we learned about migration. We learned that mobility is all types of movement, like going from school to the store and then home is mobility. We also learned that migration is defined as a permanent move to somewhere else, but their are many different types of migration. Most people relocate a short distance and remain in the same country, but some long distance migrants move to other countries in major centers of economic activity. Migration can also be divided into two categories. One being internal migration a permanent move from one country to another either voluntary or forced, and Internal migration a permanent move within the same country either interregional or intraregional. Then there are international migration patterns, where approximately 9 percent of the worlds people are international migrants, Global patterns reflect migration tendencies from developing countries to developed countries= Net out migration and net in migration. Then in the U.S there are 3 main eras of migration, colonial settlements in seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, mass European immigration in the late 19th and 20th centuries, and Asian and Latin American integration in the late 20th and early twenty first centuries.

The review and little quiz

Today in human geography with Mr. Schick we began class by reviewing over what we did last class with the video. I had previously looked on varacross so I knew we had a quiz I just had no idea what the quiz was on. but after we went over the video notes and turned them in, he said we had a quiz on the notes. Which in taking the quiz he was exactly right, the quiz just asked us the same questions that the paper did on Hans Rosling. However, he continued to talk about the demographic transitions like we had discussed it before which caused confusion. As far as I know, and I have never missed this class, we have never gone over this before, but he acts as though we did. I don't know if it is a mess up on my part or his part, but I do know that I have no idea what he is trying to get at when he talks about the stages and things. Like he will ask what is stage one? Well I have no idea and he seems to get frustrated when he respond in such ways but we never learned it, I even looked back in my blog after the quiz and my journal before the quiz and I couldn't find anything on these per say stages. That’s all we did in class, I am writing this in class now and that’s all we are doing in class.

The Video

Today in Mr. Schick's human geography class we watched a video. He scared the class at first because he came up and said we had a pop quiz on something we had no idea about, and when i got the paper it was on a video we had never watched. Then he told us it was just a joke, which i was very happy about. However we did spend thirty five minutes just watching one video which was only four minutes an like thirty five seconds at best, and we had to fill out questions based on the video. I was able to answer like five out of the ten questions that were their because some of the questions i didn't think the video covered, questions asking about what stage certain countries were in that i couldn't answer because i was confused on what he meant by stages related to the video. I also had a shadow in today, and he was able to understand and talk about the questions when we asked them in class so that was kind of cool.

Closer Look At The Test #3

Today in human geography with Mr. Schick we got our test back and went over them to review and so we know everything for the mid-terms i suppose. On the test i got a 102 and the only thing i got wrong was the one bonus question, the question what whats the Net Migration rate fro the world? I put like thirty six and some change but the actual answer was like zero because no one is leaving the world. I thought that question was pretty good and i wished at the time i would have realized what the question was actually asking. Anyway there were only three of the class that got over a hundred percent or higher so i felt pretty good about it. Our class average was only like eighty six though which i think should be higher but everyone else thought it was a really good average. However out of all of his classes we had the lowest average score, which i don't really understand because all we have to do is take notes and pay attention and the test is basically exactly what we talked about.

Test on Population

Today in human geography we took a test on population and the CIA world fact book. On the test today i studied a lot and felt really good going into it, i feel as though i did really well too. On the first part, the CIA fact book part, i answered all the questions with time still on the clock, instead of fifteen minutes it took me like ten. After that i continued on the rest of the test and for me i thought it really wasn't that hard. A couple of the questions required me to think about it but i had remembered going over them in class, a couple of them were super easy though, Mr. Schick even gave us a word bank. After that we had a couple questions on population pyramids which was easy for me. The test consisted of questions like which one is a developing nation, which is the Christmas tree, which one is probably a population pyramid for Japan, easy questions like that. Anyway i think i did well and i'm excited for our next unit whatever it may be on.

Reviewing For Test

Today in human geography with Mr. Schick we reviewed for the test that we have on Thursday. We spent most of the time looking at the CIA world fact book because we will have only fifteen minutes to complete fifteen questions. Due to this i am nervous to complete the test because in class there were plenty of things i didn't know how to look up in a quick manner. Like the GDP i had no idea how to look that up but then i looked it up and figured out how to and it was really easy. I also was able to see that if i look at the cite more often i can do that test really fast. After that Mr. Schick went over the things not online that we needed to do know and i realized that i actually have some reviewing to do for the test. We don't have Mr. Schick for Human geography tomorrow so i will spend the time i would be spending doing a blog to review so that i can hopefully pass the test with a one hundred percent.

Population Pyramid's for following places

Today in human geography with Mr. Schick we discussed more about population pyramids. We continued to go over how a population pyramid can either be a Christmas tree, a box, or a cup,  however they can also be undefined which is were it follows no pattern like the following patterns. Also in class today we looked at the worlds population pyramid and what it will look like when we are around sixty and it was pretty cool. I got to see how when i'm old the population will grow at an astonishing rate from what it is now, and that Nigeria will actually have one of the largest populations due to how fast they are reproducing. But the united states will continue to grow as a box so that we are a developed nation with a slow birth rate.Anyway we also have the test this Thursday and i feel pretty comfortable with what i have to know, as of just knowing how to navigate the world fact book.
